The surgical tech is generally responsible for preparing the patient and the operating room (OR) for surgeries. It includes sterilizing the equipment and ensuring adequate supplies are available in the OR before the surgeon starts. They also assist in patient preparation by cleansing and disinfecting any incision regions.

During the procedure, the surgical tech helps the surgeon by giving them instruments as necessary. They may also assist by holding organs in place or by using retractors. When the surgery is finished, the surgical tech will support while dressing the wound and transferring the patient to a recovery room.
