Accelus is dedicated to advancing minimally invasive spine surgery by providing access to previously neglected markets through its supporting technology.
FREMONT, CA: Robotic surgery, also known as robot-assisted surgery, enables doctors to perform a wide range of complex procedures with greater precision, flexibility, and control than traditional techniques. In addition, robotic surgery is commonly associated with minimally invasive surgery performed through small incisions.

Accelus, a privately held medical technology company focused on advancing the adoption of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) as the standard of care in the spine, declared the successful completion of the first surgery combining its Remi„ Robotic Navigation, LineSider® Spinal System, and FlareHawk® Expandable Interbody Fusion Device systems in one procedure. Dr. Tien V. Le, a board-certified and dual-fellowship-trained neurosurgeon, conducted the procedure in Brandon, Florida, in March 2022.
Accelus' Remi Robotic Navigation System with LineSider pedicle screws, in tandem with its FlareHawk interbody fusion system, were ideal for performing this case, as the patient was experiencing instability and compression of the nerve roots following a previous decompression surgery that necessitated intervention,"said Dr. Le. The use of all three novel technologies enabled a seamless, minimally invasive approach, which allowed for smaller incisions and a less pronounced interbody insertion profile, minimizing the risk of nerve injury."
Dr. Le is a pioneer in minimally invasive surgery and was chosen for the coveted post-graduate Spine Neurosurgery Fellowship at Semmes-Murphey Neurologic & Spine Institute by Dr. Kevin Foley, the surgeon. The latter designed the Remi Robotic Navigation System. Dr. Le has recently included the Remi system in his spine fusion surgeries to help manage the insertion of pedicle screws more precisely. In addition, he has been certified for robotic-assisted spine surgery since 2013.
“Since our inception, Accelus has been focused on designing products that reconcile the desire of spine surgeons for a minimally invasive approach with the need for maximum clinical results,” said Chris Walsh, CEO and Co-Founder of Accelus. “Successful outcomes from procedures such as Dr. Les recent groundbreaking surgery validate our mission, and we look forward to expanding our scope to a variety of surgical approaches that can be performed across several clinical settings, including ASCs, in the future.”
The LineSider Spinal System, a low-profile, minimally invasive pedicle screw system incorporating extended tab technology, is placed using the Remi platform with robotic assistance. Dr. Le also employed FlareHawk in this treatment and has over 100 FlareHawk cases. Accelus' flagship device, the FlareHawk, incorporates revolutionary multidirectional expansion technology to reduce neural retraction during implant insertion.
