Getting a detailed satellite view of the brain along with a clear view of the neurons was almost impossible till date. Scientists have been arguing over how brains work since years, which unfortunately could not be sufficed with neuroscience’s ‘navigational map view’. Now, with the advancement of powerful medical X-Ray at help, a comprehensive navigational view of the brain is now possible.
Eva Dyer, a neuroscientist and electrical engineer at the Georgia Institute of Technology with her team of researchers have imaged the brain functionality of mice using X-Ray of the highest energy at the ‘meso’ scale. These images give a summarized view of the brain’s intercellular connectivity of the brain down to minute neural networks. The scientist is hopeful that in future the imaging technique would help studying how the brain works.
The team of researchers led by Dyer has also been successful in conjoining the meso-scale imaging technique with electron microscopy, which guided them to a closer view of the brain, with the neurons presenting a street-like view similar to the Google Earth, representing the navigational setup of the brain.
The meso-scale technique also brought out the images of capillary glands, along with brain cells, the capillaries interlocking the tissues.
The new spectrum of advancements in the field of Neuroscience has led to an immense scope for the discovery of how the brain works with the meso-scale imaging technology. Dyer believes their use of body X-Ray tomography in studying the larger brain tissues will result in getting a clear concept of the subject.
