Approximately 1 billion people have near or distance impairment that could have been prevented. Young children with vision impairment can experience lower educational achievements. Adults tend to develop eyesight problems by the decreased workforce, lower productivity, and a high rate of depression.
Eyesight problems and blindness impact the lives of people everywhere. Improving eyesight and regular eye exams are essential to ensure they are free of diseases.
As per the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), about 11 million Americans need vision correction to see clearly. Prevention can prevent many vision problems.
One can ensure that many issues will be avoided by adopting a few measures.
Healthy diet: Good eye health begins with a healthy diet. To prevent macular degeneration and cataracts, eat omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and vitamins C and E. The best sources are eggs, nuts, beans, and leafy green vegetables like spinach, kale, and collards.
Quit smoking: Medical problems such as optic nerve damage, cataracts, and macular degeneration can be avoided by quitting smoking. Smoking leads to unhealthy eyes, causing vision impairment and many other ophthalmic diseases.
Wear sunglasses: UV radiation from the sun might harm the eyes if we don't use the proper sunglasses. Excessive UV exposure increases the risk of developing cataracts and macular degeneration.
Use safety eyewear: Wear safety glasses or protective eyewear if working with dangerous or airborne chemicals.
Visit an eye doctor regularly: A comprehensive dilated eye exam by a qualified eye professional is the only way to determine eye health.
Give your eyes a rest: Forgetting to blink while looking at the computer screen or concentrating on one item might cause your eyes to grow tired.
Practice workspace eye safety: Employers are expected to provide a secure workplace. Wear the proper form of protective eyewear whenever necessary if it is a requirement of employment, and encourage your coworkers to do the same.
