Despite this, many inhaler users forget or disregard the schedule or fail to purchase refills on time.
Smart inhalers, of which a rising number are already entering the market, are anticipated to enhance how patients and physicians manage COPD therapy. Essentially, these are inhalers with additional digital features, such as Bluetooth connectivity that connect to an app. Some feature sensors that identify whether the user is in a high pollution or pollen region, some indicate if the user's inhaling method needs to be reviewed, and others may provide reminders. They all keep track of how frequently the inhaler is used.

The RPM system provides the therapists with a comprehensive insight into the "morphology" or "shape" of the patient's breathing, as opposed to conventional systems that record more limited data.
