Dr. Sonny Bal, President, and CEO of SINTX Technologies, said, “The antibacterial characteristics of SINTX’s silicon nitride were identified in 2012 and have been confirmed by multiple independent studies. We have developed and tested powders, coatings, and composites of silicon nitride that extend the technology to other material platforms.”
In the biomedical space, beyond monolithic silicon nitride implants that are already FDA-approved, now SINTX can add its material to widely utilized biomaterials like PEEK and titanium. The organization has already created a composition of silicon nitride and PEEK. It is estimated that the product will be launched in the market by early 2021.
SINTX offers silicon nitride in other forms like sintered powders and soluble fractions, which can expand its technology portfolio. Such diverse silicon nitride states will allow SINTX to embrace it in various types of applications like fabrics for catch-and-kill face masks to neutralize respiratory pathogens. The latest issued patent is a crucial milestone in SINTX’s strategy to control the antipathogenic properties of silicon nitride, and it adds to an increasing I.P. portfolio in that space.
SINTX Technologies is an OEM ceramics organization that creates and commercializes silicon nitride for medical and non-medical applications. The primary strength of SINTX Technologies comes from the manufacturing, research, and development of silicon nitride ceramics for external partners. The company currently manufactures silicon nitride powders and components in its FDA registered and ISO 13485:2016 certified manufacturing facility.
