Some key factors driving the global non-invasive prenatal testing market are the high risk of chromosomal abnormalities, favourable reimbursement policies for average and low-risk pregnancies etc.
FREMONT, CA: Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) is a method to determine the risk factors related to the health of the fetus, whether healthy or with genetic abnormalities. A safe and highly effective way of screening for conditions such as Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome, Patau syndrome, monosomy X and Turner syndrome NIPT has become a popular testing method these days. Massive parallel sequencing (MPS) technology and single-nucleotide polymorphism are two types of NIPT methods that are commercially available.

A rapid shift has been created in the paradigm of aneuploidy screening during pregnancy with the discovery of cell-free DNA (cfDNA)-based NIPT. As suggested by clinical validation studies, NIPT’s accuracy is more than combined first-trimester screening (CFTS), with very high sensitivity (99.3 per cent) and specificity (99.9 per cent) for trisomy 21 (Down syndrome). In contrast to other invasive techniques such as chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis, NIPT is considered to be safe.
The discovery of next-generation sequencing technology has enabled the sequencing of fetal DNA fragments that can be assembled into a full genetic map, allowing a non-invasive way of scanning the fetal genome prenatally. Novel screening methods for fetal chromosomal aneuploidies are possible in the present times because of the developments in molecular technologies and the discovery of cell-free fetal DNA in maternal plasma. However, the non-invasive prenatal testing market faces certain challenges restraining its growth such as stringent government regulations; also despite its high accuracy, it is still considered a screening test.
The largest market for NIPT with more than 45 per cent revenue market share in North America, followed by Europe. The increasing rate of genetic disorders in newborns related to increasing maternal age, wider adoption, and the presence of leading maternal age, wider adoption, and the presence of leading players working on fetal and neonatal care in this region are some of the primitive factors driving the North American market. The NIPT market is expected to grow tremendously in Europe over the coming years due to the adoption of the latest technology and new product launches. The highest CACR in the upcoming days is expected to be witnessed by the Asia Pacific region.
