Age-related macular degeneration (AMD): AI in eye care is a comprehensive tool that can detect and measure abnormalities in vision. AI can undertake early detection for AMD with a success rate of more than 80 percent. Research shows that 11 million people in the United States suffer from AMD, which is set to reach 22 million by 2050.
Managing cataracts: AI for cataract detection and management includes grading nuclear cataract severity from slit-lamp images. The use of artificial intelligence assists in the management of the disease by improving clinical outcomes in large-scale screening programs. Clinicians can collectively manage cataracts with an algorithm that uses anatomical and pathological labels and image-level classification to diagnose cataracts. A platform based on artificial intelligence can improve efficiency and resource coverage through medical referral patterns, and layer-wise examination of cataracts can be successful through convolutional neural networks (CNN).

A test revealed that the AI system was more than 90 percent sensitive.
Researchers are testing a deep learning method that can accurately differentiate impaired patients' VF from healthy eyes in patients with preperimetric open-angle glaucoma.
