Investigators at the Martinos Centre for Biomedicinal Imaging used the magnetoencephalography technique to measure the levels of magnetite levels in the brain. Moreover, the method also detects the weak signals coming from the normal current signals from the brain. David Cohen, Ph.D., of the Martinos Center, says that diagnosing the levels of magnetite using medical devices may allow new roles in a normal brain.
Before the advent of the magnetoencephalography, researchers said that the presence of magnetite was only observed in postmortem brains. According to the study by Cohen’s investigation of MEG signals, the team has come up with a better understanding of alternating current fields. Earliest MEG studies had found that, when a single healthy hair follicle is pressed over the scalp, there would be a single ray of the magnetic field produced. But, recent researches have found that not a single but plenty of magnetic rays are released from the brain. As a result, the research helps the investigators to measure the levels of the magnetic material within the head. Through the research, the location of the magnetite in the brain is also identified. It helps to regenerate the weak signals coming from the brain.
